IEC 60704-2-1:2014 applies to electrical vacuum cleaners (including their accessories and their component parts) for household use in or under conditions similar to those in households. This part of IEC 60704 applies as it is to electrical vacuum cleaners operating in dry conditions. Some additions and modifications for vacuum cleaners operating in wet conditions are under consideration. How to test robotic vacuum cleaners is under consideration for a future edition. This part of IEC 60704 does not apply to vacuum cleaners for industrial or professional purposes. This third edition cancels and replaces the second edition published in 2000. This edition constitutes a technical revision. This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition: a) introduction of a measuring method on hard floors; b) inclusion of values for measurement uncertainty; c) inclusion of values for standard deviation for declaration and verification; d) update of the definition of the standard test carpet.

It also deals with the safety of centrally-sited vacuum cleaners, excluding the installation of the system. They are not equipped with a traction drive. The following power systems are covered: mains powered motors up to a rated voltage of 250 V for single-phase appliances and 480 V for other appliances, battery powered motors. This standard also applies to machines handling hazardous dust, such as asbestos. This fourth edition cancels and replaces the third edition published in 2002 and its Amendments 1 (2004) and 2 (2007). It constitutes a technical revision. IEC 60335-2-2:2009(E) Deals with the safety of electric vacuum cleaners and water-suction cleaning appliances for household and similar purposes, including vacuum cleaners for animal grooming, their rated voltage being not more than 250 V. It also applies to centrally-sited vacuum cleaners and automatic battery-powered cleaners. This standard also applies to motorized cleaning heads and current-carrying hoses associated with a particular vacuum cleaner. The principal changes in this edition as compared with the fifth edition of IEC 60335-2-2 is as follows: The text is aligned with IEC 60335-1:2001, and its amendments 1 and 2. The attention of the National Committees is drawn to the fact that equipment manufacturers and testing organizations may need a transitional period following publication of a new, amended or revised IEC publication in which to make products in accordance with the new requirements and to equip thenselves for conducting new or revised tests. It is the recommendation of the committee that the content of this publication be adopted for implementation nationally not earlier than 12 months or later than 36 months from the date of publication.

IEC 60312-1:2010(E) applicable for measurements of the performance of dry vacuum cleaners for household use in or under conditions similar to those in households. The purpose of this document is to specify essential performance characteristics of dry vacuum cleaners being of interest to the users and to describe methods for measuring these characteristics. Due to influence of environmental conditions, variations in time, origin of test materials and proficiency of the operator, most of the described test methods will give more reliable results when applied for comparative testing of a number of appliances at the same time, in the same laboratory and by the same operator. This document is not intended for battery-operated vacuum cleaners. For safety requirements, reference is made to IEC 60335-1 and IEC 60335-2-2.
