1.1 This European Standard contains the specific requirements for the construction and testing of transportable ventilated rooms (TVR's), such as skid mounted analyser houses with type of protection 'v' intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres. Transportable in this sense means manufactured in one location (the manufacturer's premises) for trade and transportation to another location (the user's premises) for installation and use. This European Standard supplements European Standard EN 50014 or where appropriate EN 50021, the requirements of which apply to electrical apparatus with type of protection 'v' except as modified within this standard. This standard does not contain the requirements for equipment group II, category 1 or equipment group I, category M1. This standard does not contain the requirements for equipment group I, category M2 where there exists a potential source of release. This standard does not contain the requirements for group II where there exists a potential hazard from combustible dusts. NOTE It is not the intention of this European Standard to cover stationary analyzer houses according to EN 61285. 1.2 This European Standard includes the requirements for the construction of the TVR and its associated components including, the inlet and outlet apertures for the ventilation gas supply and for the safety provisions and devices necessary for the type of protection 'v'. 1.3 This European Standard specifies the requirements for TVR's with or without an internal source of release of potentially flammable or toxic, gas, liquid or vapour (for example analyzers placed within the TVR). 1.4 Due to the safety factors incorporated in the type of protection, the uncertainty of measurement inherent in good quality, regularly calibrated measurement equipment is considered to have no significant detrimental effect and need not be taken into account when making the measurements necessary to verify compliance of the apparatus with the requirements of this standard.

This European Standard specifies requirements for automatic electrostatic spraying installations which are used for spraying flammable liquids which may form explosive atmospheres in the spraying area. In this connection distinction is made between spraying devices which due to their type of construction comply with requirements as laid down in EN 50050:1986 as applicable, and those for which other discharge energies and/or current limits are stipulated. It also specifies the constructional requirements for the safe operational conditions of the electrical installations including ventilation requirements. Additional requirements as to the construction of the spraying areas such as cabins, booths, etc. are dealt with in other standards

This European Standard specifies the requirements for the construction and testing of oil-immersed electrical apparatus, oil-immersed parts of electrical apparatus and Ex components in the type of protection o, intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres of gas, vapour and mist. This European Standard supplements EN 50014, the requirements of which apply to oil-immersed electrical apparatus. This European Standard is applicable to electrical apparatus and parts of electrical apparatus which are not ignition capable in normal operation. Compliance of the electrical apparatus shall be assessed against IEC 70-15 except for those parts designed to comply with EN 50020. Note: This European Standard assumes that the electrical apparatus immersed in the protective liquid is fixed in its operating position in accordance with the installation instructions

This European Standard specifies requirements for the construction , testing and marking for Group II electrical apparatus with type of protection 'n', intended for use only in areas where explosive atmospheres of gas, vapour and mist are unlikely to occur or if they do occur, are likely to do so infrequently or for a short period only. This standard is applicable to non-sparking electrical apparatus and also to apparatus with parts or circuits producing arcs or sparks or having hot surfaces which, if not protected in one of the ways specified in this standard, could be capable of igniting a surrounding explosive atmosphere. A non-incendive part is limited in use to the particular circuit for which it has been shown to be non-ignition capable and, therefore, cannot be separately assessed as complying with this standard. This standard is applicable to electrical equipment and components of Group II, Category 3G. Such equipment is designed to be capable of functioning in conformity with the operating parameters established by the manufacturer and ensuring a normal level of protection. Equipment in this category ensures the requisite level of protection during normal operation. NOTE 1: In this standard the word 'apparatus' has the same meaning as the word 'equipment' used in the Directive. Compliance with this European Standard does not imply any removal of, or lowering of, the requirements of any other European Standard with which the electrical apparatus complies. This standard supplements, and may supersede, the requirements for apparatus for normal industrial applications. NOTE 2: The application of this standard may require the exercise of engineering judgement because of the wide range of apparatus and technologies covered. If apparatus is to be certified the relevant requirements may need to be agreed between the manufacturer and the testing station

This European Standard is applicable to electrical apparatus protected by enclosure and temperature limitation for use in areas where combustible dust may be present in quantities which could lead to a fire or explosion hazard. This standard gives guidance on the selection, installation and maintenance of electrical apparatus. NOTE: EN 50281-1-1 specifies requirements for the design, construction and testing of electrical apparatus. The ignition protection is based on the limitation of the maximum surface temperature of the enclosure and on the restriction of dust ingress into the enclosure by the use of dust-tight or dust-protected enclosures. The application of electrical apparatus in atmospheres that may contain explosive gas as well as combustible dust, whether simultaneously or separately, requires additional protection measures. The principles of this standard can also be followed when combustible fibres or flyings cause a hazard. This standard does not apply to dusts of explosives which do not require atmospheric oxygen for combustion, or to pyrophoric substances. This Standard is not applicable to electrical apparatus for use in mines susceptible to firedamp; nor does it take account of any risk because of an emission of flammable or toxic gas from the dust. This standard does not include other types of protection and is only applicable to protection by enclosure and temperature limitation

This European Standard specifies two test methods for determining the minimum ignition temperatures of dust for the purpose of selecting electrical apparatus for use in the presence of combustible dust in accordance with EN 50281-1-2:1998 and constructed in accordance with EN 50281-1-1:1998. These methods are not suitable for use with substances having explosive properties. Method A (clause 4) is applicable to the determination of the minimum temperature of a prescribed hot surface which will result in the decomposition and/or ignition of a layer of dust of a specified thickness deposited on it. The method is particularly relevant to industrial equipment with which dusts are present on hot surfaces in thin layers exposed to the atmosphere. Method B (clause 5) is applicable to the determination of the minimum temperature of a prescribed hot surface which will result in the ignition of a cloud of given sample of dust or other particulate solid. The test is intended to be carried out as a complementary test after determining the minimum ignition temperature of a dust layer by method A of this European Standard. NOTE 1 concerning method B: Because the method of operation of the furnace gives short residence times for dust particles within it, this method of test is applicable to industrial equipment where dust is present as a cloud for a short time. This method of test is of small scale and the results are not necessarily representative of all industrial conditions NOTE 2 concerning method B: The method is not applicable to dusts which may, over a longer period of time than provided for in the test method, produce gasses from deposits generated during pyrolysis or smouldering

This European Standard is applicable to electrical apparatus protected by enclosure and temperature limitation for use in areas where combustible dust may be present in quantities which could lead to a fire or explosion hazard. This standard specifies requirements for design, construction, and testing of electrical apparatus. EN 50281-1-2 gives guidance on the selection, installation and maintenance of the apparatus. The ignition protection is based on the limitation of the maximum surface temperature of the enclosure and on the restriction of dust ingress into the enclosure by the use of dust-tight or dust-protected enclosures. Apparatus within the scope of this standard may also be subjected to additional requirements in other publications - for example, EN 50014, Electrical apparatus for potentially explosive atmospheres. The application of electrical apparatus in atmospheres which may contain explosive gas as well as combustible dust, whether simultaneously or separately, requires additional protective measures. The principles of this standard may also be followed when combustible fibres or flyings cause a hazard.
