ISO 4180:2009 establishes general rules to be used for the compilation of performance test schedules for complete, filled transport packages intended for use within any distribution system except for the packages used for dangerous goods.
For a known distribution environment with experimental data available (case 1), ISO 4180:2009 provides guide lines for the compilation of appropriate test schedules.
For an unknown distribution environment (case 2), ISO 4180:2009 provides test schedules in dependence of the test specimen mass and forecast destination.
ISO 4180:2009 also gives the factors to be considered in assessing the criteria of acceptance of such packages after they have been subjected to a package performance test schedule.

Diese Internationale Norm legt allgemeine Regeln für die Erstellung von Prüfplänen für versandfertige
Packstücke im Rahmen von Verteilungsprozessen fest, ausgenommen sind Gefahrgutverpackungen.
Für einen bekannten Verteilungsprozess mit belastbaren Annahmen für zu erwartende Transportbelastungen
(Fall 1) gibt diese Internationale Norm allgemeine Regeln für die Erstellung von Prüfplänen vor.
Für einen unbekannten Verteilungsprozess (Fall 2) gibt diese Internationale Norm Prüfungen in Abhängigkeit
der Produktmasse und des vorgesehenen Zielgebietes vor.
Diese Internationale Norm beinhaltet weiterhin Beurteilungskriterien für solche Packstücke, die zusätzlichen
Prüfplänen zum Eignungsnachweis unterzogen wurden.

L'ISO 4180:2009 spécifie les règles générales à suivre lors de l'établissement de programmes de performance pour les emballages d'expédition complets et pleins destinés à être utilisés dans tout système de distribution, à l'exception des emballages utilisés pour les marchandises dangereuses.
Pour un environnement de distribution connu associé à des données expérimentales (cas 1), l'ISO 4180:2009 fournit des lignes directrices pour l'établissement de programmes d'essais appropriés.
Pour un environnement de distribution inconnu (cas 2), l'ISO 4180:2009 fournit des programmes d'essais en fonction de la masse de l'échantillon et de la destination prévue.
L'ISO 4180:2009 donne aussi les facteurs dont il faut tenir compte pour déterminer les critères d'acceptabilité de ces emballages après qu'ils ont été soumis à un programme d'essais de performance.

Ta mednarodni standard vzpostavlja splošna pravila za pripravo programov preskušanja primernosti za uporabo za celovito, napolnjeno prevozno embalažo, ki je namenjena za uporabo v okviru katerega koli distribucijskega sistema, razen za embalažo, ki se uporablja za nevarno blago. Ta mednarodni standard podaja smernice za pripravo primernih programov preskušanja za poznano distribucijsko okolje, kjer so na voljo preskusni podatki (primer 1). Za nepoznano distribucijsko okolje (primer 2) pa ta mednarodni standard zagotavlja programe preskušanja, ki so odvisni od mase preskusnega vzorca in napovedane destinacije. Ta mednarodni standard prav tako podaja dejavnike, ki jih je potrebno upoštevati pri ocenjevanju meril sprejemanja takšne embalaže po tem, ko je bil predmet programa preskušanja primernost embalaže za uporabo.

The text of ISO 4180:2009 has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 122 “Packaging” of the
International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and has been taken over as EN ISO 4180:2010 by
Technical Committee CEN/TC 261 “Packaging” the secretariat of which is held by AFNOR.
This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an identical
text or by endorsement, at the latest by March 2011, and conflicting national standards shall be withdrawn at
the latest by March 2011.
Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this document may be the subject of patent
rights. CEN [and/or CENELEC] shall not be held responsible for identifying any or all such patent rights.
This document supersedes EN 24180-1:1992, EN 24180-2:1992.
