Surface active agents - Technical alkane sulfonates - Determination of the mean relative molecular mass of the alkane monosulfonates and the alkane monosulfonate content (ISO 6845:1989)

A test portion is dissolved in ethanol and the solution is acidified. The alkane monosulfonic acids are separated from the alkane disulfonates and sulfate ions by extraction with light petroleum. The light petroleum phase is evaporated and the residue is solved in ethanol. Traces of alkali are removed by means of a cation-exchange column. The eluate is neutralized with carbonate-free sodium hydroxide solution. The sodium alkane monosulfonates so formed are dried and weighed. The mean relative molecular mass of the alkanemonosulfonates and the alkanemonosulfonate content are calculated.

Diese Internationale Norm legt ein Verfahren zur Bestimmung der mittleren relativen Molmasse von Alkanmono-sulfonaten, die in technischen Alkansulfonaten vorliegen und die keine größeren Mengen an Paraffinen enthalten, sowie des Gehaltes an Alkanmonosulfonat fest.
Das Verfahren ist auf alle Alkalimetallsalze sulfochlorierter und sulfoxidierter Paraffine anwendbar.

La présente Norme internationale prescrit une méthode pour la détermination de la masse moléculaire relative moyenne de l'alcanemonosulfonate présent dans les alcanesulfonates techniques contenant de faibles quantités de paraffines, ainsi qu'une méthode pour la détermination de la teneur en alcanemonosulfonates. La méthode est applicable à tous les sels alcalins des produits de sulfochloration et de sulfoxydation des paraffines.

The text of ISO 6845:1989 has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 91 "Surface
active agents" of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and has been taken
over as EN ISO 6845:2003 by Technical Committee CEN/TC 276 "Surface active agents", the
secretariat of which is held by AFNOR.
This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of
an identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by August 2003, and conflicting national
standards shall be withdrawn at the latest by August 2003.
According to the CEN/CENELEC Internal Regulations, the national standards organizations of
the following countries are bound to implement this European Standard: Austria, Belgium, Czech
