Ductile iron pipes, fittings and accessories - Requirements and test methods - Part 1: PE coatings

This document specifies the requirements and test methods applicable to factory applied extruded polyethylene coatings for the external corrosion protection of ductile iron pipes according to EN 545, EN 598 and EN 969 for use at operating temperatures up to 50 °C.
This document is not applicable to ductile iron pipes protected with thin PE sleeve. Special works at site like drilling, tapping, etc. can influence the corrosion protection properties. Those job steps are intended to be included in the instructions of pipe saddle and accessory manufacturers and all other essential installation instructions. These instructions are not part of this document.

Dieses Dokument legt Anforderungen an und Prüfverfahren für werksseitig aufgebrachte extrudierte Polyethylenumhüllungen für den äußeren Korrosionsschutz von Rohren aus duktilem Gusseisen nach EN 545, EN 598 und EN 969 für die Verwendung bei Betriebstemperaturen bis 50 °C fest.
Dieses Dokument gilt nicht für Rohre aus duktilem Gusseisen, die mit einer dünnen PE-Schlauchfolie geschützt sind. Besondere Arbeiten an der Baustelle wie Anbohren, Setzen von Hausanschlussschellen usw. können die Korrosionsschutzeigenschaften beeinflussen. Diese Arbeitsschritte sind für die Aufnahme in die Einbauanleitungen der Hersteller von Anbohrschellen und Hausanschlussformstücken und in alle wesentlichen Arbeitsanweisungen vorgesehen. Diese Anweisungen sind nicht Bestandteil dieses Dokuments.

Tuyaux, raccords et accessoires en fonte ductile - Prescriptions et méthodes d’essai - Partie 1 : Revêtements en PE

Le présent document spécifie les prescriptions et les méthodes d’essai applicables aux revêtements en polyéthylène extrudés appliqués en usine pour protéger de la corrosion extérieure les tuyaux en fonte ductile conformes à l’EN 545, l’EN 598 et l’EN 969 et destinés à être utilisés à des températures de fonctionnement allant jusqu’à 50 °C.
Le présent document n’est pas applicable aux tuyaux en fonte ductile protégés par une manche en PE de faible épaisseur. Des travaux particuliers effectués à la pose, tels que perçage, taraudage, etc., peuvent avoir une incidence sur les propriétés de protection contre la corrosion. Il est prévu que ces étapes figurent dans les instructions des fabricants de selles et d’accessoires de tuyaux ainsi que dans toutes les autres instructions d’installation indispensables. Ces instructions ne font pas partie du présent document.

This Technical Report contains the sanitary characteristics and test methods applicable to those factory applied lining, coating and jointing materials of ductile iron pipes and fittings conforming to EN 545 which are in contact with water intended for human consumption for use at operating temperatures up to 50 °C. Ductile cast iron itself is not in direct contact with the conveyed water therefore no characteristics in respect to the sanitary behaviour are necessary. As ductile cast iron is impermeable against diffusion of organic substances the water quality is maintained in service. Different surface/volume ratios are used in the tests for pipes, fittings and joints to reflect the different impact of their surface areas exposed to the water in the overall pipeline.

This European Standard specifies the requirements and associated test methods applicable to ductile iron pipes, fittings, accessories and their joints for the construction of pipelines outside buildings:

-   with or without pressure;
-   to be installed below or above ground.
This European Standard is applicable to pipes, fittings and accessories which are:
-   manufactured with socketed, flanged or spigot ends;
-   supplied externally and internally coated;
-               suitable for fluid temperatures between 0 °C and 50 °C, excluding frost;
-   not intended for use in areas subject to fire regulations.
NOTE 1   This does not preclude special arrangements for the products to be used at higher temperatures.
This European Standard covers pipes and fittings cast by any type of foundry process or manufactured by fabrication of cast components, as well as corresponding joints and accessories, in a size range extending from DN 40 to DN 2 000, inclusive.
This European Standard specifies requirements for materials, dimensions and tolerances, mechanical properties and standard coatings of ductile iron pipes and fittings. It also gives performance requirements for all components including joints. Joint design and gasket shapes are outside the scope of this standard.
In addition, reference is made to the performance requirements of couplings, flange adaptors and saddles manufactured for use with ductile iron pipes and fittings.
NOTE 2   In this European Standard, all pressures are relative pressures, expressed in bars (100 kPa = 1 bar).

-   to convey surface water, domestic waste water and certain types of industrial effluents, either in separate systems or in combined systems.
This technical report:
-   explains in more detail the process of testing for the performance tests;
-   explains in more detail the benefits of high alumina cement lining;
-   explains in more detail the definitions of the different types/levels of attestation to enable customers to ensure their requirements are fulfilled;
-   explains in more detail the ways of certification of conformity with EN 598 for a reliable evaluation of the performance of products;
-   explains in more detail CE marking and its relevance i.e. the CE mark is not a mark of conformity with a standard but only a self-declaration concerning the CPD essential requirements.
