ISO 81346-12:2018 This document establishes rules for structuring of systems and the formulation of reference designations and provides classes for systems in the field of construction works and building services. This document also specifies a classification of objects and corresponding letter codes for use in reference designations of object occurences.
This document is not intended for manufacturers or system-related designations of individuals (e.g. inventory number or serial number) or for product types (e.g. article number or parts number).

Industrial systems, installations and equipment and industrial products - Structuring principles and reference designations - Part 2: Classification of objects and codes for classes

IEC 81346-2:2019 establishes classification schemes with defined object classes and their associated letter codes, and is primarily intended for use in reference designations and for designation of generic types.
The classification schemes are applicable for objects in all technical disciplines and all branches of industry.
IEC 81346-2:2019 has the status of a horizontal standard in accordance with IEC Guide 108. It is also intended for use by technical committees in preparation of publications related to reference designations in accordance with the principles laid down in IEC Guide 108.
IEC 81346-2:2019 cancels and replaces the first edition published in 2009. This edition constitutes a technical revision.
This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition:
a) The entry classes of the classification scheme have been defined to reflect the “inherent function” of the object classified;
b) The classes are defined to align with the principles of ISO 22274 and ISO 704;
c) A three-level classification scheme has been defined, which provides a greater flexibility for the designer in some technical fields;
d) Classes are defined by their definition and provided with a preferred term. Examples are provided if needed;
e) A separate classification scheme for spaces has been provided.

Preparation of information for use (instructions for use) of products - Part 1: Principles and general requirements

IEC/IEEE 82079-1:2019 is jointly developed and published by IEC, IEEE, and ISO and provides general principles and detailed requirements for the design and formulation of all types of instructions for use that will be necessary or helpful for users of products of all kinds, ranging from a tin of paint to large or highly complex products, such as large industrial machinery, turnkey based plants or buildings.
IEC/IEEE 82079-1:2019 cancels and replaces the first edition IEC 82079-1:2012. This edition constitutes a technical revision. It includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition:
a) The structure of this document has been rearranged in order to facilitate application of the standard and to make it easier to find information. Where possible, the language has been simplified.
b) Information for use is introduced as a generic term. Instructions for use is a synonym for information for use. Step-by-step instructions is used as a subset of information for use.
c) Clause 5 (principles) is revised and focuses on the purpose of information for use, the quality of information and the process for management of information.
d) The process for preparation of information for use is integrated in the normative part and addressed comprehensively.
e) Empirical methods for the evaluation of information for use are described in the normative part.
f) The professional competencies needed for the preparation of information for use are addressed more comprehensively.
g) Some aspects have been added to general requirements for information for use for complex systems of systems.
h) Consideration is given to instructions for self-assembly products.
i) An informative annex providing guidance on the fulfilment of specified requirements is introduced.
IEC/IEEE 82079-1:2019 has the status of a horizontal standard in accordance with IEC Guide 108. It is primarily intended for use by technical committees in the preparation of standards in accordance with the principles laid down in IEC Guide 108.
One of the responsibilities of a technical committee is, wherever applicable, to make use of horizontal standards in the preparation of its publications. The contents of this horizontal standard will not apply unless specifically referred to or included in the relevant publications.

IEC 81346-1:2009, published jointly by IEC and ISO, establishes general principles for the structuring of systems including structuring of the information about systems. Based on these principles, rules and guidance are given for the formulation of unambiguous reference designations for objects in any system. The reference designation identifies objects for the purpose of creation and retrieval of information about an object, and where realized about its corresponding component. This edition includes the following substantial changes with respect to the previous one:
- a new introductory clause providing a description and explanation to the concepts used elsewhere in the publication;
- a more comprehensive description of the structuring principles and rules for structuring are provided;
- "other aspects" are introduced, and the prefix sign # is assigned to these aspects;
- the concept of reference designation group has been deleted;
- the specific term "transition" has been avoided and been replaced by an improved textual description of this phenomenon in annex D;
- a new clause about labelling is introduced;
- the old annexes have been removed with the exception of the annex showing an example of the application of reference designations within a system;
- a new annex explaining the manipulation of objects is introduced;
- 4 new annexes are introduced as rearrangement of detailed examples or explanatory information.
IEC 81346-1:2009 has the status of a horizontal standard in accordance with IEC Guide 108.
