Synthetic rubber latex — Preparation of dry polymer

ISO 2028:2015 specifies four methods for the isolation of dry polymer from synthetic polymer latices containing anionic surfactants, for the purpose of subsequent testing. Tests to be performed include the determination of the Mooney viscosity, the bound-styrene or acrylonitrile content in the polymer chain or the mill shrinkage.

Foreword
ISO (the International Organization for Standardization) is a worldwide federation of national standards
bodies (ISO member bodies). The work of preparing International Standards is normally carried out
through ISO technical committees. Each member body interested in a subject for which a technical
committee has been established has the right to be represented on that committee. International
organizations, governmental and non-governmental, in liaison with ISO, also take part in the work.
ISO collaborates closely with the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) on all matters of
electrotechnical standardization.
International Standards areThe procedures used to develop this document and those intended for its
further maintenance are described in the ISO/IEC Directives, Part 1. In particular the different approval
criteria needed for the different types of ISO documents should be noted. This document was drafted
in accordance with the rules given ineditorial rules of the ISO/IEC Directives, Part 32 (see www.iso.
org/directives).
Draft International Standards adopted by the technical committees are circulated to the member bodies
for voting. Publication as an International Standard requires approval by at least 75 % of the member
bodies casting a vote.
Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this International Standarddocument
may be the subject of patent rights. ISO shall not be held responsible for identifying any or all such patent
rights. Details of any patent rights identified during the development of the document will be in the
Introduction and/or on the ISO list of patent declarations received (see www.iso.org/patents).

Synthetic rubber latex — Preparation of dry polymer
WARNING —  — Persons using this International Standard should be familiar with normal
laboratory practice. This International Standard does not purport to address all of the safety
problems, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user to establish appropriate
safety and health practices and to ensure compliance with any national regulatory conditions.
1 Scope
This International Standard specifies four methods for the isolation of dry polymer from synthetic
polymer latices containing anionic surfactants, for the purpose of subsequent testing. Tests that mayto
be performed include the determination of the Mooney viscosity, the bound-styrene or acrylonitrile
content in the polymer chain or the mill shrinkage.
Because of the wide variety of surfactants and stabilizers that are used in the manufacture of synthetic
rubber latices, nothere is not one method is suitable for all latices. The methods given in this International
Standard are suitable for a wide variety of latices, but their applicability shouldis to be confirmed for
individual types. Latices containing non-ionic stabilizers, in particular, may be resistant to coagulation.
These methods are not necessarily suitable, without modification, for latices containing polymers
having high tack.
It should be noted that theThe dry polymer as isolated may contain residual organic acids or their
aluminium salts which may affect the properties of the polymer. This should and which are to be taken
into account when performing analytical tests.
