This document (prEN 30-2-1:2022) has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 49 “Gas
cooking appliances”, the secretariat of which is held by UNI.
This document is currently submitted to the CEN Enquiry.
This document will supersede EN 30-2-1:2015.
This Part 2-1 “Rational use of energy” of EN 30 complements Part 1-1 “Safety”.
The main modification in this document with reference to the previous edition, EN 30-2-1:2015, are:
— the alignment to the last edition of the referenced standards;
— the removal of requirements concerning single uncovered burners;
— the addition in Table 1 of information for testing burners with nominal heat input between 0,8 kW
and 1,15 kW inclusive.
This document has been prepared under a Standardization Request given to CEN by the European
Commission and the European Free Trade Association, and supports essential requirements of EU
Directive(s) / Regulation(s).

1 Scope
This document sets out the requirements and the test method for the rational use of energy of gas
burning domestic cooking appliances, in accordance with EN 30-1-1:2021, Clause 1.
This document covers type testing only.
NOTE The calorific values specified in this document are based on the gross calorific value (Hs) as defined in
EN 30-1-1:2021

For the purposes of this document, the terms and definitions given in EN 30-1-1:2021 and the following
apply.

4 Performance characteristics
4.1 Efficiency
4.1.1 General
The requirement given in 4.1.2 is only applicable to hotplate burners, the nominal heat input of which is
higher than 0,8 kW.

4.1.2 Single covered burner
The efficiency of each single covered burner determined under the test conditions specified in 5.2.2
shall be at least:
1) 25 % (from cold);
2) 35 % (from hot).
4.1.3 Hob
The efficiency of the gas hob shall be determined under the test conditions specified in 5.2.1
4.2 Maintenance consumption of the oven
Under the test conditions specified in 5.3, the maintenance consumption of the oven shall not exceed
the value obtained using the formula:
C = 0,93 + 0,035 v

This European Standard specifies the special constructional and operational characteristics, as well as the requirements and methods of test for safety and marking, for domestic cooking appliances having forced-convection ovens and /or grills using combustible gases, as defined in EN 30-1-1:2008+A2:2010.

- appliances equipped with a burner having a fan for the supply of combustion air or for the evacuation of the products of combustion;
- appliances supplied at pressures greater than those defined in EN 30-1-1:2008+A2:2010, 7.1.2;
- appliances equipped with an oven and/or with a grill having a fan either for the supply of combustion air or for the evacuation of the products of combustion;
- appliances equipped with a compartment in which a burner and an electric heating element can function simultaneously;
- appliances having one or more burners that are capable of remote operation (type 1 or type 2), unless the burner(s) concerned are thermostatically controlled oven burners of time-controlled ovens that are designed for a delayed start without the user being present.
This European Standard does not cover the requirements relating to third family gas cylinders, their regulators and their connection.
This European Standard only covers type testing.

The specific requirements are given in Part 2.
Only appliances of types A1, A2, A3, B1 and B2, as defined in Clause 4, are considered in this European Standard.
This European Standard applies to all professional cooking and bakery appliances using gas for preparing food and drink.
Only the net calorific value (Hi) and net Wobbe number (Wi) are used.
Annex C, informative, lists the main types of equipment entering into the field of application of this European Standard.

This European Standard specifies the construction and performance characteristics as well as the requirements and methods of test for the safety and marking of freestanding and built-in domestic cooking appliances burning the combustible gases given in 4.1 according to the categories specified in 4.2, referred to in the text as "appliances". This European Standard covers the following types of domestic cooking appliances, as defined in Clause 3, and belonging to the classes defined in 4.3 (see Table 1): - independent freestanding hotplates; - independent built-in hotplates; - independent hotplates and grills; - table cookers; - freestanding ovens; - built-in ovens; - freestanding or built-in grills; - griddles; - freestanding cookers; - built-in cookers. Unless specifically excluded hereafter, this European Standard applies to these appliances or their component parts, whether or not the component parts are independent or incorporated into a single appliance, even if the other heating components of the appliance use electrical energy (e.g. combined gas-electric cookers). Appliances supplied with third family gas at pressures greater those defined in 4.2 are outside the field of application of this standard.
Appliances used in leisure vehicles and boats are outside the field of application of this standard.
Independent stove burners, whose nominal heat input is below 1,16 kW and grills, are not subject to any special requirement concerning the rational use of energy due to their low rate and their use for short periods of time.
This European Standard does not state all applicable requirements for integral equipments of other nature (for example barbecues covered by EN 498).
