The upper contact can be intermittent, not exceeding one hour. 3.2 footwear for limited contact with chemicals Type US footwear designed and manufactured to protect the wearer from splashing of chemicals on the upper and contact with the outsole. EN 13832-2:2018 (E) 5 3.3 footwear for prolonged contact with chemicals footwear designed and manufactured to protect the wearer from contact with chemicals. The contact can be continuous or intermittent. Prolonged means that it can be more than one hour in permanent contact. Note 1 to entry: (see EN 13832-3:2018) 4 Design For footwear for limited contact with chemicals, only designs B, C, D or E in Figure 1 shall be used.

EN 13832-2:2018 (E) 6 5 Classification Footwear for limited contact with chemicals shall be classified in accordance with Table 1. This standard applies for hybrid footwear (as defined in EN ISO 20345:2011, Annex A). 6 Requirements 6.1 Basic requirements Footwear for limited contact with chemical shall conform to the requirements specified in Table 2. Footwear for limited contact with chemical may or may not include a toe cap. indicates that the requirement shall be met. In some cases the requirement relates only to particular materials within the classification, e.g. pH value of leather components. This does not mean that other materials are precluded from use. O

Other testing chemicals not listed could be used if they are representative for the intended use of the footwear. EN 13832-2:2018 (E) 11 the responsibility of the user to apply established Health and Safety practices and to ensure compliance with the applicable regulations. According to their performance, footwear for limited contact with chemicals are classified into two types: Type U, and Type US as describe in Table 5. Type US x x The splashing and degradation shall be tested both with the same chemicals. 6.2.1.2 Splashing resistance For footwear for limited contact with chemicals resisting to splashing, when they are tested according to EN 13832-1:2018, Clause 4. — No major defects defined in Annex B of EN 13832-1:2018 shall be detected after the first (10 min) and the second (60 min) assessment. — No penetration inside the footwear of chemical shall be detected — No spilt liquid shall be trapped 6.2.1.3 Degradation resistance 6.2.1.3.1 General For footwear for limited contact with chemicals, the degradation shall be tested according to EN 13832-1:2018, 4.3 with a degradation time of 8 h, for each chemical claimed (see Table 4) in the marking and reported in the user instruction. The outsole and upper shall both be tested with the same chemicals. After the tests, the tests pieces shall be inspected. If any test pieces is very affected (see EN 13832-1:2018, 4.3.4.3) after testing, it is considered that they fail the test. 6.2.1.3.2 Tests to be performed after the degradation test 6.2.1.3.2.1 Mass variation EN 13832-1:2018, 4.3.4.3 requires the measurements of the mass variation on the upper and outsole samples. They shall be given in the test report. There is no requirement on the mass variation. It is used only as information to assess the samples changes during the test. 6.2.1.3.2.2 Requirements after the degradation test The requirements to fulfil after the degradation test are given in Table 6. When outsoles from class II footwear are tested as described in EN ISO 20344:2011, 8.3, the relative volume loss shall be not greater than 350 mm3. 6.2.3 Water resistance When tested in accordance with EN ISO 20344:2011, 5.15.1, the total area of water penetration after 100 trough lengths no water penetration shall occur or when tested in accordance with EN ISO 20344:2011, 5.15.2, no water penetration shall occur before 80 min. 6.2.4 Innocuousness Footwear for limited contact to chemicals shall not adversely affect the health or hygiene of the user. Safety footwear shall be made of materials such as textiles, leather, rubbers or plastics that have been shown to be harmless. The materials shall not, in the foreseeable conditions of normal use, release or degrade to release substances generally known to be toxic, carcinogenic, mutagenic, allergenic, toxic to reproduction or otherwise harmful. Information claiming that the product is innocuous shall be checked. NOTE Information about critical substances in footwear and footwear components can be found in-ISO/TR 16178 [7]. 6.3 Additional requirements for footwear for limited contact with chemicals For a specific application, in accordance with the intended use, it may be necessary to define additional requirements. In such case, footwear for limited contact with chemical shall also conform to the appropriate additional requirements given in Table 7. SIST EN 13832-2:2019

All information shall be unambiguous. Each item of footwear shall be clearly and permanently marked, for example by embossing or branding. The following information shall be given in the marking: a) size; b)
manufacturer’s identification mark c) manufacturer’s type designation; d)
year and month of manufacture; e) reference to the present standard EN 13832-2:2018. If applicable, the protection of the toe shall be given with the following:
“200J” if the toe cap fulfils EN ISO 20345:2011, 5.3.2 requirements

NOTE If the footwear fulfils all the requirements of EN ISO 20345:2011 or EN ISO 20346:2014 or EN ISO 20347:2012, this standard can be marked additionally on the product. 7.2 Marking of type U footwear For footwear (type U) for limited contact with chemicals complying with the requirements stated in Tables 2 and 5, if the pictogram is marked, Figure 3 (Symbol 2414 of ISO 7000:2014 “Protection against chemicals”) shall be used . The pictogram shall be present on the outside of each footwear, minimum dimension 30 mm x 30 mm.
Figure 3 — Pictogram for chemical resistance The test chemicals, at least two, shall be identified by marking their code letter into bracket after the standard number as shown in Figure 4. If other chemicals not present in the list (see table 4) have been tested, information shall be given in the user notice. When they are fulfilled, the additional requirement as defined in Table 7 shall be included in the marking in a second line (see figure4). The marking of the footwear properties is not necessarily with the pictogram. EN 13832-2:2018 (E) 16 8 Information for use supplied by the manufacturer 8.1 General Each pair of footwear for limited contact with chemicals shall be supplied with an information leaflet, and shall contain the information specified in 8.2 to 8.7. The leaflet shall carry the symbol for “operating instructions”, which shall be as shown in Figure 2. 8.2 Instructions for use and related information All information shall be unambiguous.
