Glass in building - Adhesive backed polymeric film - Part 1: Definitions and requirements

EN 15752-1 defines adhesive backed polymeric film based on biaxially oriented polyester film, and the performance characteristics of adhesive backed polymeric film for use on glass in buildings. This European Standard does not apply to adhesive backed polymeric films manufactured using polyvinylchloride (PVC). Other requirements, not specified in this standard, may apply to other glass or glazing products, e.g. laminated glass or insulating glass units, when adhesive backed polymeric film is included as part of the original assembly or manufacture of the glazing product. These additional requirements are specified in the appropriate product standard. Adhesive backed polymeric film, in this case, does not lose its mechanical or thermal characteristics.

Die vorliegende Europäische Norm definiert selbstklebende Polymerfolie basierend auf biaxial orientierter Polyesterfolie und die Leistungsmerkmale der selbstklebenden Polymerfolie im Hinblick auf den Einsatz in Verbindung mit Glas im Bauwesen.
Die vorliegende Europäische Norm gilt nicht für selbstklebende Polymerfolien, die unter Verwendung von Polyvinylchlorid (PVC) hergestellt wurden.
Für andere Gläser oder Verglasungen, wie zum Beispiel Verbundglas- oder Isolierglaseinheiten, können weitere in der vorliegenden Norm nicht festgelegte Anforderungen gelten, wenn die selbstklebende Polymerfolie Bestandteil der ursprünglichen Baugruppe oder Fertigung des Verglasungsprodukts ist. Diese zusätzlichen Anforderungen sind in der entsprechenden Produktnorm festgelegt. Selbstklebende Polymerfolie verliert in diesem Fall nicht ihre mechanischen oder thermischen Merkmale.

La présente Norme européenne définit les films polymères adhésifs à base de film polyester orienté de façon biaxiale et les caractéristiques de performance des films polymères adhésifs destinés à être utilisés sur du verre dans la construction.
La présente Norme européenne n’ s’applique pas aux films polymères adhésifs fabriqués à partir de chlorure de polyvinyle (PVC).
D'autres exigences, qui ne sont pas spécifiées dans la présente norme, peuvent s'appliquer à d'autres produits verriers ou à des vitrages, par exemple les vitrages en verre feuilleté ou en verre isolant, lorsqu'un film polymère adhésif fait partie intégrante de l'assemblage d'origine ou de la fabrication du vitrage. Ces exigences supplémentaires sont spécifiées dans la norme de produit correspondante. Dans ce cas, le film polymère adhésif ne perd pas ses caractéristiques mécaniques ou thermiques.

Standard EN 15752-1 določa samolepljivo polimerno folijo na podlagi dvoosno obrnjene poliestrske folije in lastnosti delovanja samolepljive polimerne folije za uporabo na steklu v stavbah. Ta evropski standard se ne uporablja za samolepljivo polimerno folijo, proizvedeno z uporabo polivinilklorida (PVC). Druge zahteve, ki niso opredeljene v tem standardu, se lahko uporabljajo za druge steklene ali zastekljevalne proizvode, npr. za lepljeno steklo ali izolacijsko steklo, kadar je samolepljiva polimerna folija vključena kot del izvirnega sestava ali proizvodnje zastekljevalnega proizvoda. Te dodatne zahteve so določene v ustreznem standardu za proizvod. Samolepljiva polimerna folija v tem primeru ne izgubi mehanskih ali toplotnih lastnosti.

EN 15752-1:2014 (E) 6 Introduction Adhesive backed polymeric film is designed to be applied to glass to modify the properties and performance of the glass. Different types of adhesive backed polymeric films are manufactured to modify specific properties of glass including solar energy transmittance, visible light transmittance, emissivity, Ultra Violet transmittance, privacy, appearance, impact behaviour, security, electromagnetic frequency (EMF) attenuation, and surface protection. EN 15752-1:2014 (E) 7 1 Scope This European Standard defines adhesive backed polymeric film based on biaxially oriented polyester film, and the performance characteristics of adhesive backed polymeric film for use on glass in buildings. EN 15752-1:2014 (E) 8 3 Terms and definitions For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply. 3.1 adhesive backed polymeric film one or more layers of polymeric film with an adhesive on one external face Note 1 to entry: It may also incorporate one or more of the following: colouring, UV absorbers, UV inhibitors, metal layer(s), metal alloy layer(s), metal oxide layer(s), ceramic layer(s), scratch or abrasion resistant surface coating, release liner. The adhesive on the external surface of adhesive backed polymeric films is either a dry polyester adhesive, which is water activated, or a cross-linked acrylic pressure sensitive adhesive. There are instances where a water-based installation solution is required to facilitate the adhesion to a glass substrate. The adhesive system can be specifically designed for a performance characteristic. A release liner or a water soluble non-sticky coating or both may be used to protect the adhesive layer. These shall be removed prior to film installation. A typical construction of an adhesive backed polymeric film is shown in Figure 1. Other adhesive backed polymeric film constructions may be simpler or more complex than this example. Adhesive backed polymeric film manufacturers shall provide installation recommendations. Adhesive backed polymeric film is designed to be applied to glass to modify the properties and performance of the glass. Different types of adhesive backed polymeric films are manufactured to modify specific properties of glass including solar energy transmittance, visible light transmittance, emissivity, Ultra Violet transmittance, privacy, appearance, impact behaviour, security, electromagnetic frequency (EMF) attenuation, and surface protection. kSIST FprEN 15752-1:2014

1 Scope This European Standard defines adhesive backed polymeric film based on biaxially oriented polyester film, and the performance characteristics of adhesive backed polymeric film for use on glass in buildings. This European Standard does not apply to adhesive backed polymeric films manufactured using polyvinylchloride (PVC). Other requirements, not specified in this standard, may apply to other glass or glazing products, e.g. laminated glass or insulating glass units, when adhesive backed polymeric film is included as part of the original assembly or manufacture of the glazing product. These additional requirements are specified in the appropriate product standard. Note 1 to entry: The translucence may be in patterns such as stripes, squares, dots or other patterns and effects. 4 Adhesive backed polymeric films Adhesive backed polymeric films are made from one or more polymeric film layers. The adhesive on the external surface of adhesive backed polymeric films is either a dry polyester adhesive, which is water activated, or a cross-linked acrylic pressure sensitive adhesive. There are instances where a water-based installation solution is required to facilitate the adhesion to a glass substrate. The adhesive system can be specifically designed for a performance characteristic. A release liner or a water soluble non-sticky coating or both may be used to protect the adhesive layer. These shall be removed prior to film installation. A typical construction of an adhesive backed polymeric film is shown in Figure 1. Other adhesive backed polymeric film constructions may be simpler or more complex than this example. Adhesive backed polymeric film manufacturers shall provide installation recommendations. kSIST FprEN 15752-1:2014

Colour may be added to layers c, d and/or layer e. UV absorbers may be added to layer d and/ or layer e. A second layer may be added, with a laminating adhesive, either for darker tints, or for safety/security performance, or for improved durability.

5 Properties of adhesive backed polymeric films 5.1 General
The properties of adhesive backed polymeric films are wide ranging. Their specific performance characteristics are given below: 5.1.1
Performance characteristics The performance characteristics and the properties of adhesive backed polymeric film are described in relation to their class, i.e. where they can be used, and to their type, i.e. the performance of the glass that will be modified. The class of film is given in Table 1 and Figure 2 and their property modifications are given in Table 2, where surface 1 is always towards the external environment. kSIST FprEN 15752-1:2014
