1.1   The scope of EN 14511-1:2022 is applicable.
1.2   This document specifies the test conditions for the rating of air conditioners, liquid chilling packages and heat pumps, using either, air, water or brine as heat transfer media, with electrically driven compressors when used for space heating and/or cooling. The document also specifies the test conditions for the rating of air-cooled and water(brine)-cooled process chillers.
1.3   This document specifies the conditions for which performance data are to be declared for single duct and double duct units for compliance to the Ecodesign Regulation 206/2012 and Energy Labelling Regulation 626/2011.

This document specifies the terms and definitions for the rating and performance of air conditioners, liquid chilling packages and heat pumps using either air, water or brine as heat transfer media, with electrically driven compressors when used for space heating and/or cooling.
It also specifies the terms and definitions for the rating and performance of process chillers.
This document does not apply to heat pumps for domestic hot water, although certain definitions can be applied to these.
This document applies to:
-   factory-made units that can be ducted,
-   factory-made liquid chilling packages with integral condensers or for use with remote condensers, and
-   air-to-air air conditioners which can also evaporate the condensate on the condenser side.
Packaged units, single split and multisplit systems are covered by this document. Single duct and double duct units are covered by this document, as well.
In the case of units consisting of several parts, this document applies only to those designed and supplied as a complete package, except for liquid chilling packages with remote condenser.
This document is primarily intended for water and brine chilling packages but can be used for other liquid subject to agreement.
The units having their condenser cooled by air and by the evaporation of external additional water will have their performance in the cooling mode determined in accordance to EN 15218. For those which can also operate in the heating mode, the EN 14511 series applies for the determination of their performance in the heating mode.
NOTE 1   Part load testing of units is dealt with in EN 14825.
NOTE 2   All the symbols given in this text are used regardless of the language.

This document specifies methods for testing the sound power level of air/water, brine/water, water/water and direct exchange/water heat pump water heaters and heat pump combination heaters with electrically driven compressors and connected to or including a domestic hot water storage tank for domestic hot water production.
This European Standard comprises only the testing procedure for the domestic hot water production of the heat pump system.
NOTE 1   Testing procedures for simultaneous operation for domestic hot water production and space heating are not treated in this standard. Simultaneous operation means that domestic hot water production and space heating generation occur at the same time and may interact.
NOTE 2   For space heating function, the requirements are given in EN 12102-1:2017.
This European Standard only applies to water heaters which are supplied in a package of heat pump and storage tank. In the case of water heaters consisting of several parts with refrigerant connections, this European Standard applies only to those designed and supplied as a complete package.
This European Standard does not specify requirements for the quality of the used water.

1.1   Scope of EN 12309
Appliances covered by this document include one or a combination of the following:
-   gas-fired sorption chiller;
-   gas-fired sorption chiller/heater;
-   gas-fired sorption heat pump;
-   hybrids based on gas sorption appliances.
This document applies to appliances designed to be used for space heating or cooling or refrigeration with or without heat recovery.
This document applies to appliances having flue gas systems of type B and C (according to EN 1749) and to appliances designed for outdoor installations. EN 12309 does not apply to air conditioners, it only applies to appliances having:
-   integral burners under the control of fully automatic burner control systems,
-   closed system refrigerant circuits in which the refrigerant does not come into direct contact with the water or air to be cooled or heated,
-   mechanical means to assist transportation of the combustion air and/or the flue gas.
The above appliances can have one or more primary or secondary functions (i.e. heat recovery).
In the case of packaged units (consisting of several parts), this standard applies only to those designed and supplied as a complete package.
The appliances having their condenser cooled by air and by the evaporation of external additional water are not covered by EN 12309.
Installations used for heating and/or cooling of industrial processes are not within the scope of EN 12309.
All the symbols given in this text are used regardless of the language used.
1.2   Scope of this Part 1 of EN 12309
This part of this document specifies the terms and definitions for gas-fired sorption appliances for heating and/or cooling with a net heat input not exceeding 70 kW.
