IEC 60079-29-1:2016(E) specifies general requirements for construction, testing and performance, and describes the test methods that apply to portable, transportable and fixed equipment for the detection and measurement of flammable gas or vapour concentrations with air. The equipment, or parts thereof, is intended for use in explosive atmospheres and in mines susceptible to firedamp. This second edition of IEC 60079-29-1 cancels and replaces the first edition of IEC 60079-29-1:2007 series and constitutes a technical revision. IEC 60079-29-1:2016 spécifie les exigences générales pour la construction, les essais et l’aptitude à la fonction, et décrit les méthodes d’essai qui s’appliquent aux matériels portables, transportables et fixes pour la détection et le mesurage des concentrations de gaz ou de vapeurs inflammables dans l’air. Les matériels, ou parties de ceux-ci, sont destinés à être utilisés dans des atmosphères explosives et dans les mines grisouteuses. Cette deuxième édition de l'IEC 60079-29-1 annule et remplace la première édition de la série IEC 60079-29-1:2007. Cette édition constitue une révision technique. Ta del standarda IEC 60079-29 določa splošne zahteve za izdelavo, preskušanje in delovanje ter opisuje preskusne metode, ki se uporabljajo za prenosno, premično in fiksno opremo za zaznavanje in merjenje koncentracij vnetljivih plinov ali hlapov z zrakom. Oprema ali njeni deli so namenjeni za uporabo v eksplozivnih atmosferah in rudnikih, izpostavljenih jamskemu eksplozivnemu plinu.
Ta del standarda IEC 60079-29 se uporablja za opremo za zaznavanje vnetljivih plinov z merilnim obsegom do katerega koli prostorninskega deleža, ki ga navede proizvajalec, ki je namenjena za javljanje, opozarjanje ali uporabo druge izhodne funkcije za namene označevanja morebitne nevarnosti eksplozije in (v nekaterih primerih) za sprožitev samodejnih ali ročnih varnostnih ukrepov.

Ta del standarda IEC 60079-29 dopolnjuje in spreminja splošne zahteve standarda IEC 60079-0. Kadar je zahteva iz tega standarda v nasprotju z zahtevo iz standarda IEC 60079-0, ima prednost zahteva iz standarda IEC 60079-29-1.
OPOMBA 1: Standard IEC 60079-29-1 je namenjen za dobavo opreme, pri čemer določa ravni varnosti in
zmogljivosti, primerne za splošno uporabo. Za posebne načine uporabe lahko potencialni kupec (ali ustrezen organ) dodatno zahteva posredovanje opreme v posebno preskušanje ali odobritev.
Na primer uporaba opreme skupine I (tj. oprema za uporabo v rudnikih, izpostavljenih jamskemu eksplozivnemu plinu) morda ne bo dovoljena brez dodatne, predhodne odobritve ustreznega organa, pristojnega za rudarski sektor.
Tovrstne posebne preskuse/odobritve je treba obravnavati kot dodatek k določbam zgoraj navedenih standardov in ločeno od njih, ti preskusi/odobritve pa ne izključujejo overitve ali skladnosti v zvezi s temi standardi.
OPOMBA 2: Ni mogoče pričakovati, da bo vsa oprema, umerjena pri uporabi posebnih plinov ali hlapov, pravilno delovala v primeru drugih plinov ali hlapov.
