BRIEF HISTORY
The IS0 Recommendation R 1107, Netting for fishing - Basic terms and definitions, was drawn up by
Technical Committee ISO/TC 38, Textiles, the Secretariat of which is held by the British Standards Institution (BSI).
Work on this question led to the adoption of a Draft IS0 Recommendation.
This first Draft IS0 Recommendation (No. 1198) was circulated in January 1967 to all IS0 Member Bodies

for enquiry, and received sufficient support to be submitted to the IS0 Council. However, during the preparation
of the Council text, a technical problem arose, which necessitated the circulation of a second Draft IS0 Recommen-
dation.
In October 1968, this second Draft IS0 Recommendation No. 1198 was circulated to all the IS0 Member
Bodies for enquiry. It was approved, subject to a few modifications of an editorial nature, by the foliowing Member
Bodies :

One Member Body (Netherlands) opposed the approval of the second Draft, on account of the definitions
contained in clause 2.7.1.
This second Draft IS0 Recommendation was then submitted by correspondence to the IS0 Council, which
decided, in September 1969, to accept it as an IS0 RECOMMENDATION.

NETTING FOR FISHING
BASIC TERMS AND DEFINITIONS
1. SCOPE
This IS0 Recommendation gives the principal terms relating to netting for fishing nets, together with their
definitions or, in some cases, the method of expressing dimensions.
2. TERMS AND DEFINITIONS
2.1 Netting. A meshed structure of indefinite shape and size
composed of one yarn or of one or more systems of yarns interlaced or joined, or
(a)
obtained by other means, for example by stamping or cutting from sheet material or by extrusion.
(b)
2.2 Netting yarn. All yarns* suitable for the manufacture of netting.
NOTE. - The principal types of netting yarns are twines. The latter are defined below.
2.2.1 Netting twine. The product of one twisting operation embracing two or more single yarns or mono-
filaments.
2.2.2 Cabled netting twine. The product of further twisting operations embracing two or more netting twines.
2.2.3 Braided netting twine. The product of braiding or plaiting netting yarns and/or netting twines.

Size of netting yam. The size of netting yam is indicated by its linear density expressed in the tex system
(see IS0 Recommendation R 138, Universal yarn count system). The size of the final product is expressed
by the “resultant linear density” (see IS0 Recommendation R 1 139, Designation ofyarns).

HISTORIQUE
La Recommandation ISO/R 1 107, Nappe de filet pour filets de pêche - Ternes fondamentaux et définitions,
a été élaborée par le Comité Technique ISO/TC 38, Textiles, dont le Secrétariat est assuré par la British Standards
Institution (BSI).
Les travaux relatifs à cette question aboutirent à l’adoption d’un Projet de Recommandation ISO.
Ce premier Projet de Recommandation IS0 (NO 1 198) fut soumis en janvier 1967 à l’enquête de tous les
Comités Membres de I’ISO et obtint une approbation suffisante pour être soumis au Conseil de 1’ISO. Cependant,
un problème technique se posa lors de l’établissement du texte à soumettre au Conseil de I’ISO et il s’avéra
nécessaire de diffuser un deuxième Projet de Recommandation ISO.
En octobre 1968, ce deuxième Projet de Recommandation IS0 No 1198 fut soumis a l’enquête de tous les
Comités Membres de VISO. I1 fut approuvé, sous réserve de quelques modifications d‘ordre rédactionnel, par les
Comités Membres suivants :

Australie Iran Royaume-Uni

Un Comité Membre (Pays-Bas) se déclara opposé à l’approbation du deuxième Projet en raison des définitions
données dans le paragraphe 2.7.1.
Ce deuxième Projet de Recommandation IS0 fut alors soumis par correspondance au Conseil de VISO qui
décida, en septembre 1969, de l’accepter comme RECOMMANDATION ISO.

TERMES FONDAMENTAUX ET DÉFINITIONS
1. OBJET
La présente Recommandation IS0 donne les principaux termes relatifs aux nappes de filet pour filets de pêche
ainsi que leur définition ou, dans certains cas, le mode d'expression de dimensions données.
2. TERMES ET DÉFINITIONS
2.1 Nappe de filet. Assemblage de mailles, de forme et de dimension quelconques,
constitué d'un fil ou d'un ou deux systèmes de fils entrecroisés ou liés, ou
a)
obtenu par d'autres moyens, par exemple : par estampage ou découpage de matière en feuille ou par

extrusion.
2.2 Fil pour filet. Tout fil* utilisable pour la fabrication de la nappe de filet.
NOTE. - Les principaux types de fils pour filet sont les ficelles définies ci-dessous.
2.2.1 Ficelle pourfilet. Produit résultant d'une opération de torsion mettant en jeu deux ou plusieurs fils
simples ou deux ou plusieurs monofilaments.
2.2.2 Ficelle câblée pour filet. Produit résultant d'opérations de torsion successives mettant en jeu deux ou
plusieurs ficelles pour filet.
2.2.3 Ficelle tressée pourfilet, Produit résultant d'une opération de tressage de plusieurs fils ou ficeiles ou de
plusieurs fils et ficeiles:

Grosseur du fil pour fdet. La grosseur du fil pour filet est indiquée par sa masse linéique exprimée en tex
